URGENT PHONE/EMAIL ZAP: Khalfani is Being Denied his Religious Materials, Legal Mail, and Running Water

Please use the below information to reach out to warden John Galipeau in regards to the situation faced by Leonard McQuay at Westville Correctional Facility. Please call and email as much as you can! On Saturday, McQuay was released from Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City, Indiana after several operations that were necessary due to complications resulting from previous maltreatment during transportation to a clinic in Avon. After two weeks of monitoring, McQuay’s kidney were found to be in acute disruption, his prostate was enlarged, and his bladder was bleeding. He then underwent three surgeries, two to stop the bleeding in his bladder and one to stop bleeding from infected tissue in his prostate, which has resulted in the use of a catheter. McQuay is in constant pain and being held in a cell at Westville Correctional Facility with no access to a toilet or sink. McQuay is facing severe medical neglect at the hands of the IDOC and deserves to be moved to a facility or cell where he has access to running water and a toilet when needed. He is also being denied access to religious materials and important legal mail.

“Superintendent Galipeau, I am contacting you today on behalf of Leonard McQuay DOC #874304. McQuay is facing severe medical neglect as a result of mishandling during transportation to a clinic in Avon in November. Since that time, McQuay’s condition has deteriorated and he is being held in inhumane conditions without immediate access to running water, a sink, or a toilet. He is also being denied his legal mail and religious materials. We are strongly urging you to grant McQuay access to all his legal files, access to his prayer rug and holy Quran, and that he be moved to a room in the infirmary with access to running water and a toilet when needed. We also ask that Mr. McQuay’s remaining segregation time be rescinded on account of clear conduct and that he be released to general population at ISP, the reformatory, or Westville and maintain access to all his property in his cell.
