Alert! Multiple Indiana Prisons Without Heat During Below Zero Temperatures

IDOC Watch correspondents at Westville CF notified us last night, Dec. 23, around 9pm EST, that Westville Correctional Facility had no heat all day yesterday and as of the time our correspondent called, the only thing facility staff had done to remedy the situation was provide one extra blanket to each prisoner.

Yesterday’s high in Westville was 1 degree Fahrenheit!

We have also learned that the heat has been off at Plainfield CF, in at least some portions of the facility, with the temperature in Plainfield being around -6 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday.

An adequate solution to broken pipes and the lack of heat that our correspondent at Westville described was what facility staff did in 2020 when a similar situation occurred and the prisoners wouldn’t take it : bring portable heaters onto all of the units and provide multiple extra blankets to each person incarcerated there until the heating system can be fixed.

Please stay tuned as we will provide updates on these situations and there may be a call to action coming soon!
