We received the following update from Cedric Thompson‘s sister around 10:30 am on October 21, 2024.
Hello all:
I finally spoke to my brother at 9:47 am today. He said he was outside in a cage on the recreation phone and finally able to call me. I informed him, after speaking to him on Friday, that I was calling and doing everything I could to ensure his safety.
I asked the gentleman, Mr. Johnson, whom I spoke to about the welfare check, and My Brother informed me no one came to check on him until about 9:00 or 10:00 pm that night. Mind you, I spoke to someone about doing that at 12:00 pm, so that is completely unacceptable.
He assured me that he was good and all the Correctional Officers were acting very polite and empathetic being that he looks so bad. He went as far as telling me some of the officers even watched the cameras, saw what was done to him, and said it brought them to tears, and they were extremely apologetic. He said he is sending me home the grievance that he wrote because one of the officers said that it would probably be shredded because of the fear of what was going to happen to the officers involved, as well as the ones that let it happen.
All in all, he said he is good and safe for now. We are hoping to get an immediate transfer out of that prison. He had to pay off his tablet, which we did today. He is hoping to have it by Friday and will give me a call as soon as he gets it, if not sooner if he gets to a phone.
Again, I couldn’t have done all of this without your support, and I thank you so very much. Please thank everybody that was a part of this—even if it was prayer, calling, emailing, etc.—anything!
Thank you!
