Trans Woman Under Attack at Miami CF! Phone Zap for Lakesha 5/5-5/6

Lakesha at Miami CF

Lakesha Norrington is a trans woman incarcerated at Miami Correctional Facility (MCF) who has been increasingly targeted for her gender as well as her legal work/knowledge which she has used to push back against repression from prison officials against her and others as well as the inhumane conditions at MCF. We’ve published articles and calls to actions about the abuse and repression she’s been fighting here and here.

On May 2nd Lakesha’s property was confiscated by guards without documentation, including a lot of evidence that she needs for the lawsuits she has filed against the DOC. The seizure of Lakesha’s property violated IDOC Policy and Administrative Policy 02-01-101, as the guards who took it failed to provide her with Form 36030 “Notice of Confiscated Property,” making the seizure of her property was an unlawful act.

We are asking for calls and emails to demand that Lakesha’s property be returned and documented and that her concerns be addressed immediately. The DOC must abide by their own policies and procedures in regards to the confiscation of property from incarcerated people!

Please call MCF Warden Bill Hyatte and IDOC HQ, and email the IDOC Ombudsman to demand Lakesha’s property be returned and properly documented. Please leave messages if you are sent to voicemail.
