“Hello, my name is ________ and I’m calling about the wellness of Cedric Robinson, DOC #201535. As a concerned community member, it is deeply troubling that Robinson’s sister cannot even receive information about his basic state of health and must, as a result, resort to a public pressure-campaign to do so. Please perform the wellness check and inform the family of its results!
Background Information
The last Cedric Thompson was heard from was just after 11:00 am on October 18. He called his sister from Miami Correctional Facility after returning from the hospital again. Thompson said he was set up. Guards were paid to open his doors and allowed him to be beaten, raped, and burned. A previous night, the same people paid his cellmate to beat him while he was asleep. Despite assurances a guard would shut down his cell and ensure his safety, he was attacked again.
For the rest of the day, all attempts to contact Thompson were denied. Eventually C.O. Johnson answered the phone, assuring Thompson’s sister he saw her brother October 17 and he was fine. After questioning this narrative, Johnson said he could not speak any more on the matter. He refused to even say if he was okay or not.
While waiting for a call to report on a wellness check, Thompson’s sister contacted IDOC Assistant Director of Community Relations, Dalton Haney, who was able to confirm some of Thompson’s story.
However, Thompson’s family and community have still not received a word about his wellness check. Call and email to demand them this basic information!
