*We have received word that the tablets and some clothes items have been returned thanks to all of your calls. However, the vast majority of property, including many necessary items are still confiscated. We are asking people to keep calling at this time. Thank you all for your help!* -4/25
Prisoners on the Secure Housing Unit at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility have once again been raided and deprived of nearly every item in their possession.
Clothes, hygiene products, books, pillows, and their tablets have all been taken without reason.
Prisoners on the SHU have just recently been able to re-purchase the items that were illegally taken from them last October when prison staff eliminated all rights afforded to Administrative Segregation inmates. Now those items have been taken as well. They have been left with DIRTY clothes, USED soap and deodorant, and without any means of communication. The October raid was devastating the prisoners, leading some to take their own lives. We have been informed that the situation now is even worse.
At least 9 inmates on the SHU are beginning a HUNGER STRIKE tomorrow 4/22 until their items and tablets are returned.
We NEED people to call the prison at
(812) 398-5050
Ask for Mr. Carpenter of IA. Do not mention the raid or the hunger strike until you get IA and/or the wardens office on the phone.
Inform them that you are requesting that the tablets and items be returned.
