IDOC Watch has received word from the SHU at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility that suggests inmates have already been exposed to the virus and are being quarantined on the SHU. Ranges 1 and 2 of the Secure Housing Unit, the highest lockdown in the state of Indiana, are being used as a quarantined site for inmates throughout the prison believed to be exposed to the virus.
W.V.C.F. is not informing inmates of the danger and is not taking proper precautions to prevent spread of the infection. Staff have been order to shave any facial hair so as to be able to wear face masks while in the prison. Guards who have contact with inmates in Ranges 1 and 2 are still interacting with inmates in other ranges, maximizing possibility of spread. Additionally, this amounts to a sentence of solitary confinement in windowless cells for any prisoner held there, regardless of conduct or security classification.
Inmates who are being released from the prison on their normal outdates are also not being informed of the possibility of infection.
Call Wabash Valley Warden Richard Brown at 812-398-5050 and demand that proper precautions be taken to prevent spread of the virus and that the civil and human rights of all inmates be respected.
