Indiana State Prison’s Horrible Living Conditions March-April 2024

3/29/24

What's up my brother, it's about time for me to tell you the unfair living conditions and the attitude and demeanors of the officers about giving us the things we need. First and foremost I've been in segregation unlawfully under double jeopardy meaning I am being punished twice for one conduct report. The disciplinary hearing boards are purposefully locking people up, giving them extensive seg time just to create room for population. While here on lock down, 23&1, we barely get our showers for 3 maybe 4 days at a time, our food is always cold and under the required 2,000 calories, and on top of that the head of the seg department Mrs.Bane has taken away our ability to order commissary food so people [are] literally losing tremendous pounds of weight.

Our due process rights are being violated at the beginning from a kangaroo system that is built for pain and suffering. They are not giving us evidence for the proper paperwork to fight for our rights. We have to get very violent or disrespectful to get the thing that should be handed to us lawfully. All the water in our sinks is contaminated really badly; I’m talking really foggy white water and we are forced to drink it. I am starting to get sick, I've lost 18 pounds in a month and I was already a skinny dude. Then I haven't been able to call or talk to my family since February 26th because they took my phone privileges away until May12th. My sink doesn't work, it's overflowing with water so it's hard for me to brush my teeth, wash my face and things like that. My cable doesn’t work in my cell and the maintenance has been notified for 4 1/2 weeks and still no assistance. People are literally tryna commit suicide or start fires just to get out of this facility or segregation. And on top of it all we have officers with this “die slowly” attitude towards us because we really can do nothing about it. I’ve written grievances on the food and conditions and no response. I’ve written Bane, warden, and Mrs. Buss; still no answer. We need major help!!!

Living Conditions Part #2

We need your team, we need to raise attention to the news we need to blog about this we need yall to call classification and talk the head person to add pressure on this lady mrs. Bane for taking our commissary food privileges away from us as cruel and unusual punishment because they are well aware of how the Aramark workers are undercutting us on every single tray back here. We need y’all to apply all the pressure on the warden, Mrs. Buss, and Mrs. Bane.

PLEASE!! We are literally dying slowly back here. They are not trying to let people off of lock up when their seg time is up. They are treating mental health patients with no care in the world. They have left this guy in a suicide cell with doo doo all over his body and face for several months; he has gone crazy talking to himself and everything man this is all types of wrong. A couple months ago my cell caught fire and I almost died. but instead of sending me to the hospital to check my vitals and my breathing, they put me back in the same cell 20 minutes later without cleaning it or giving me anything to clean it with, forcing me to sleep breathing in toxins and fumes. It happened February 19 and I put in three grievances and still no response. They are supposed to respond within 10 days. There are people stuck back here with no conduct report for 6 months and haven't been heard or nothing, just back here suffering with no help. You know I only tell you how bad we are getting treated when it's really bad. We really need some assistance to apply pressure to IDOC Central Office Classification Department, call up here to this ISP facility and talk to Mrs. Buss about giving us our commissary back and letting one back into populations that's been back here too long with no write-ups. Talk to Mrs. Buss about why she is allowing them to violate our human rights because this is very inhumane and apply pressure to the warden to fix these portions on these treys and make Mrs. Bane give us our commissary back. Please be aware they will come up with every excuse.
